FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 1, 2021
CARSON, Calif. – Today, Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán made the following statement on the ongoing air quality crisis stemming from noxious odor emitting from the Dominguez Channel.
“People in the Carson area have been exposed to the noxious odor from the Dominguez Channel for nearly a full month now. It continues to cause nausea, headaches, difficulty breathing, and other unbearable conditions. They have suffered long enough.
“Two weeks ago, I called for the state and county to declare a state of emergency and for the federal, state and county governments to marshal all resources necessary to address the pervasive odors and poor air quality in Carson.
“It is good to see the County Board of Supervisors will likely vote on declaring a state of emergency tomorrow. This action is long overdue. I hope to see the state of California follow up to do the same.”
Additionally, today, Congresswoman Barragán asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to engage immediately with the relevant local, state, and federal authorities to alleviate the noxious odor situation and to begin work on a remediation and restoration plan for the Dominguez Channel.
