WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) in her first Congressional Baseball Game hit a first pitch single in the sixth inning, driving in a run and making it to second base before the side was retired. Rep. Barragán wore a Los Angeles Dodgers jersey, with her Congressional District number 44.
“Every kid who plays in Little League, including me, dreams of the opportunity to play ball on a big league field,” said Rep. Barragán. “Last night at the Congressional Baseball Game, my dream came true – all while wearing a Dodgers uniform! I am proud to represent Los Angeles and the team my father loved. I hope I made them both proud last night.”
The Congressional Baseball Game for Charity showed unity to honor the victims of the shooting the day prior. “I was proud to wear an LSU cap for my colleague, Steve Scalise. I am wishing a speedy recovery for Steve, Officers Crystal Griner and David Bailey, Zack Barth, and Matt Mika. We played our hearts out for them.”
Rep. Barragán has a long history playing intramural sports and a love of baseball. She played right field and second base in her Little League career and later had a short stint with the high school boys JV baseball team, after petitioning the principal to try out. Rep. Barragán went on to play softball at North Torrance High School. As an adult, she played co-ed softball for the California Supreme Court.
“Now more than ever, I look forward to next year’s game. I thank Coach Doyle and my teammates for their guidance and hope to see everyone on the field next season.”
