Barragán: Trump Budget Is a Mean-Spirited Step in the Wrong Direction

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 10, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán made the following statement about the budget proposal President Trump released to Congress today:

“President Trump’s budget is mean-spirited, partisan and harmful to working families and the environment.

“This budget makes clear who is important to the president and who is not. While it extends tax breaks for millionaires and big corporations, it cuts Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and other programs that low- and middle-income families depend on.

“Instead of funding solutions to our most pressing issues, this budget cuts lifesaving medical research programs at the National Institutes of Health and it cuts climate science research programs at NOAA.  It slashes the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Program, undermining our drive for clean energy technology.

“On issue after issue, this budget is a step in the wrong direction.”
