Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán on Trump plan to evict undocumented immigrants from public housing

At a hearing yesterday, HUD Secretary Ben Carson defended a new plan that would push undocumented immigrants out of public housing. Families can currently live in government-subsidized housing as long as one of them is a legal resident. But under the new plan, an estimated 55,000 US-born children could be evicted from their homes because their parents are undocumented. “It’s not that we’re cruel, mean-hearted. It’s that we are logical, this is common sense. You take care of your own first,” Secretary Carson said.
We learn what happened at the hours-long hearing, and get reaction from Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán, whose district covers the Port of Los Angeles to the Watts Towers.
