Rep. Barragán statement on the 16th anniversary of 9/11

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-San Pedro) issued this statement commemorating the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks:

“Each Sept. 11, we observe the anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks launched against our nation—now sixteen years ago this morning.

We all remember where we were that day. My siblings are flight attendants, and I recall the shock and fear of not knowing if they were safe, and the immense relief of hearing that they were. My heart goes out to all who lost loved ones that day.

The impact of those attacks have yet to go away, and it’ll be a long time before it does. There’s no forgetting the heroism that day of first responders and courageous citizens, nor the tragedy of lives ended far too soon.

The result of this act was not one the attackers intended. It did not break us, but made us even more determined that terrorism will not defeat us, nor destroy our commitment to the freedoms we hold so dear.

As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, and the Oversight Subcommittee, I work every day to ensure that our nation’s security professionals have the tools they need to ensure such attacks never happen again.

The spirit of 9/11 is unity.  Today we are reminded that whenever America is challenged we come together for the common good.”
