LAKEWOOD, CA. – Today Congresswoman Nanette Barragán was joined by Lakewood Mayor Ariel Pe, Vice Mayor Todd Rogers, Lakewood Community Services Supervisor Sabrina Junkin, and Lakewood City Councilmembers Steve Croft and Jeff Wood to celebrate $1,122,279 in federal funding the Congresswoman secured to renovate Weingart Senior Center.

“Senior centers are critical to the health and wellness of our older adults,” said Rep. Barragán. “The Weingart Senior Center serves over 300 older Americans every day but is in dire need of renovations.  I was proud to secure this funding in this year’s government funding bill to remodel the meal hall and common areas, replace flooring, upgrade HVAC systems, and more.  These renovations will transform the Weingart Senior Center into the modern facility that our community deserves.  I want to thank Mayor Pe and the City of Lakewood for their tireless work to improve the quality of life for our seniors and all residents of Lakewood.”

Congresswoman Barragán secured this funding in the first tranche of government funding bills passed earlier this month.  The list of planned renovations include:

  • Remodel of common areas, game room, card room, and meal hall,
  • Replacement of flooring,
  • Upgrading of heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems,
  • Creation of office space for service agencies, and
  • Improving accessibility of restrooms for seniors with disabilities.
