WASHINGTON, DC: Today, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44) released the following statement after voting yes on the Motion to Vacate the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“It is clear that MAGA Republicans cannot govern,” said Rep. Barragán. “Kevin McCarthy only became Speaker of the House because he gave in to extremists and insurrectionists in his caucus. McCarthy has continued to bow to the demands of these MAGA Republicans when he opened a baseless impeachment inquiry, broke his commitment on the debt ceiling deal, and brought us to the brink of a government shutdown.
“Again and again, he sided with the MAGA wing of his caucus to propose harmful cuts to programs that the American people rely on to put food on the table, a roof over their head, and afford childcare and healthcare. I voted Yes to vacate because McCarthy does not represent the values of the American people.”
