Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán issued the following statement on President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
“This is completely selfish of Mr. Trump – putting his self interest before the American people, before the world. The US should lead the global community in the ongoing effort to address climate change. The Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw from the agreement will have long lasting economic and environmental impacts, for both the US and the world. Climate change is real and expected to cause billions of dollars in damage from flooding and other natural disasters. The US should be acting as world leader in the fight against climate change, not an obstructionist. In accordance with the Paris Agreement, the US should expand investments in green infrastructure to create hundreds of thousands of new sustainable jobs while protecting the environment. I urge the Trump administration to recommit the US to being a world leader in the fight against climate change.”
