REP. BARRAGÁN LEADS LOS ANGELES-AREA MEMBERS IN SUPPORT OF VETERAN HOUSING PROGRAM

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D_San Pedro) today led a letter to Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary David Shulkin in support of the Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program. The letter is in response to the VAs initial decision to realign funding, which presents a threat to the program’s case management component, a key feature of the program.

“VA case managers are the lynchpin of the HUD-VASH program. They provide quality services and help identify and eliminate barriers to housing,” said Rep. Barragán. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and with Secretary Shulkin on ways we can preserve funding for this critical element of the HUD-VASH program. We must not abandon those who need our support the most.”

HUD-VASH is a collaborative program between the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Through the program, homeless veterans receive rental assistance in the form of Section 8 vouchers from HUD and supportive services from the VA.
