Rep. Barragán Congratulates University of California Schools and Students on FLAS Fellowship Grants
San Pedro, CA – Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) announced today that the University of California has been awarded approximately $2.3 million by the U.S. Department of Education under the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship grant, with $331,500 being awarded to the University of California, Los Angeles. In an effort to help strengthen world languages and cultural competency, the grants will be used to provide year round assistance to undergraduate and graduate students who are researching and participating in projects related to foreign languages or international studies.
“Congratulations to all UC schools and students for receiving this funding that will help enhance opportunities for students to interact and learn from other cultures,” said Rep. Barragán. “As a proud UCLA alumna, I am happy to know that these grants will help UC students continue to fulfill critical roles in areas where foreign languages and cultures are essential.”
