Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the National Museum of the American Latino Act to establish the first national museum to commemorate the stories of the American Latino community. It received support from both sides of the aisle and had over 300 co-sponsors, including Congressmember Nanette Diaz Barragán.
“Latino stories are American stories. Latino history is an integral part of our nation’s past, present and future,” said Congresswoman Barragán.
“It’s long past time for our stories to be told in our nation’s capital. A Smithsonian Latino Museum on the National Mall is a powerful step in commemorating our history.”
“Las historias latinas son historias americanas. La historia latina es una parte integral del pasado, presente y futuro de nuestra nación,” dijo la congresista Barragán.
“Es hora de que nuestras historias sean contadas en la capital de nuestra nación. Un Museo Smithsonian de la historia latina en el National Mall es un paso poderoso para conmemorar nuestra historia.”
