REP. BARRAGÁN STATEMENT ON VISITING AMERICAN TROOPS OVERSEAS FOR THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-San Pedro) released the following statement on visiting American servicemembers in Poland, Qatar, and Afghanistan for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“This Thanksgiving, I have the great honor to visit American troops stationed abroad in Europe, the Middle East and the surrounding region and thank them for their continued service and sacrifices. Every year, so many servicemembers are away from their families and loved ones. Yet, despite these factors, they risk their lives to uphold our ideals and freedoms,” said Rep. Barragán.
“This trip is providing my colleagues and I the opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to those who put our safety above their own.
During my stay in Poland, I witnessed American troops working with NATO as part of the Battlefield Group in response to Russian aggression.
In Qatar, I visited an Air Force base and was briefed on the recent US air strike against Taliban opium labs in Afghanistan. I was also fortunate to meet a sergeant from South Gate and who has family there.
In Afghanistan, I met Army Gen. Lathrop from the California National Guard who lives in San Pedro with his family. We served and ate a Thanksgiving dinner together with his troops.
I would like to thank those at home and abroad for making the ultimate sacrifice and serving our nation. Your bravery and service is unparalleled. May you enjoy a warm holiday with friends and family.”
