Rep. Barragán Honors San Pedro’s Veterans, Commits to Strengthening Veterans’ Health Care
San Pedro, CA – U.S. Representative Nanette Barragán (CA-44) joined House Democrats across America in honoring our nation’s veterans and reaffirmed her commitment to veterans and their families across the district.
Rep. Barragán was joined by veterans from across CA-44 communities at a Veterans Listening Session aboard the Battleship USS Iowa to discuss the harms caused by the Trump administration and House Republicans laying off tens of thousands of VA staff and proposing deep cuts to the VA budget.
Rep. Barragán also held a ceremony to honor Purple Heart recipients and to recognize the upcoming anniversary of the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, which was designed to secure care for veterans who had been exposed to toxic substances such as burn pits and Agent Orange.

“Our veterans fought hard for the rights and freedom we have today,” said Rep. Barragán. “It’s only fair that we do our part in return by making sure our veterans receive the care they deserve and the benefits they have earned. Trump and Republicans are actively undermining veterans’ care, but House Democrats will continue to fight to fund the VA and protect veterans’ health care — because House Democrats respect and honor our veterans.”
Donald Trump’s attack on veterans’ health care has weakened the VA and made it harder – or even impossible – for veterans to get the care they deserve. In July, House Republicans passed, and Donald Trump signed the Big, Ugly Bill into law, which will have devastating consequences for CA-44 veterans and their families.
Meanwhile, House Democrats have been out in full force meeting with veterans, holding hearings with veterans and military families, and demanding the Trump administration stop these cuts and strengthen veterans’ benefits.
