Rep. Barragán Hosts Round Table to Call Out Endangerment of Student Safety Near Schools Due to ICE Raids
Lynwood — On September 23, 2025, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44) met with parents, Lynwood School Board members, educators, and community leaders to address urgent concerns regarding the presence of ICE enforcement near schools. This event was a part of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ “Learning Without Fear” nationwide initiative aimed at protecting students and families from the effects of ICE presence near schools in immigrant communities.
This discussion brought together individuals who have felt the direct impacts of ICE presence near schools to collaborate and find solutions to ensure students can return to school safely and access the resources they need, without fear of being picked up by ICE agents. The conversation also focused on identifying and expanding access to resources that support students’ well-being and mental health, while also providing crucial support for families directly impacted by immigration enforcement.
“Families should feel safe sending their children to school,” said Rep. Barragán. “Students go to school to learn. There is no reason for Donald Trump to station ICE agents near what should be safe spaces in our communities. There is no reason for students to have to experience such fear and intimidation just to gain an education. There is no reason why they should have to risk their safety or the safety of their parents every day getting to their classrooms, just because the current administration wants to terrorize our immigrant communities. School must be a safe haven for our youth — and we must work together as a community to protect our students.”
