Rep. Barragán Introduces Resolution Recognizing Week of September 8th, 2025 as Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s Week

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44) introduced a resolution to recognize the week of September 8th, 2025 as Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s Week. Middle and high school athletic administrators play key roles in developing and maintaining high-quality education-based athletic programs for our nation’s youth that promote physical activity, encourage healthy social connections and interactions, contribute to positive mental health, and foster academic success among student-athletes.

“As Co-Chair of the Youth Sports Caucus, I am proud to once again introduce my resolution that celebrates the contributions of interscholastic athletic administrators,” said Rep. Barragán. “These administrators are champions of student success. Youth participation in sports can improve mental health, teach discipline, and promote academic achievement through school sports programs. Athletic administrators lay the groundwork for young athletes who may one day represent Team USA at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

“We deeply appreciate Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (D-CA) for leading this resolution. Athletic administrators oversee the largest department in many schools— planning, developing, coordinating, and supervising extra-curricular programs. The position requires a wide range of abilities to properly accomplish this role,” said Phil Rison, Executive Director of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Athletic directors in our middle and high schools are influential in creating positive athletic experiences for our nation’s youth and are essential pillars in their holistic education.

This resolution acknowledges the positive contributions of interscholastic athletic administrators in the U.S. and their importance to the physical, mental, social and professional development of our students. It also recognizes the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), which represents over 13,000 athletic administrators, as the leading organization that prepares leaders of secondary school athletics to help provide high-quality athletic programs and positive experiences for students.

Interscholastic athletic administrators are at the forefront of our nation’s education system, having stewardship over more than 8 million student-athletes in schools across the United States. These administrators work tirelessly every day to ensure student-athlete safety and well-being, often working long and unpredictable hours for the athletic, academic, and personal development of their students.
