Rep. Barragán Tours Local Carpenters Training Center and Meets with Union Leaders for House Democrats’ Reward Hard Work Week of Action
Carson, CA — On Thursday, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44) toured the Western States Carpenters South LA Training Center and met with the local union leaders of the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, as part of House Democrats’ Reward Hard Work Week of Action. The visit was an opportunity for the Congresswoman to amplify the work of the men and women of labor who play a pivotal role in our communities and to hear from them directly how Congress can better support them.
The union represents nearly 100,000 members across 12 states, including California, and has 28 training centers. At the Western States Carpenters South LA Training Center, the next generation of local, aspiring carpenters participate in apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs to gain hands-on training in welding, concrete formwork, scaffolding, and other carpentry skills to ensure they are fully prepared for the workplace.
“Our brothers and sisters in labor build the foundation of our communities, whether it’s housing, schools, or other critical infrastructure,” said Rep. Barragán. “Our communities’ hard workers have a right to form labor unions, bargain for fair contracts, access their benefits, and afford basic necessities like groceries and rent. Trump and House Republicans continue to attack unions and the right to organize — but they’ve done nothing to bring down the cost of living. House Democrats are fighting to make sure that when you work hard and play by the rules, your job is protected and you’re able to live a good life.”
