WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44) delivered a fiery speech on the House floor in response to a Republican resolution that intentionally misrepresents and flat out lies about Vice President Kamala Harris’ record.
Instead of passing budget bills or addressing the issues Americans care about, House Republicans introduced and wasted precious floor-time to play politics with a resolution to condemn Vice President Harris’ work as “Border Czar,” a position that does not exist and an assignment she was never given. The Republican attacks intentionally ignore her high-level diplomatic role to address root causes in Central America for the Biden-Harris Administration.
Vice President Harris was tasked to address the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Since the Vice President started her work in Central America in 2021, she has helped to secure billions in public-private investment and millions in humanitarian aid, and we have seen significantly reduced border crossings from migrants in these countries.
