WASHINGTON, D.C – Today, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44) issued the following statement on her “No” vote on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“Once again, extremists in the House have hijacked a normally bipartisan piece of legislation to force their right-wing ideology on the American people,” said Rep. Barragán. “This bill is filled with provisions that attack LGBTQ+ military members, restrict women’s freedom to seek abortion care, and undermine actions to diversify our military personnel to address our country’s history with discrimination. The provisions in this bill will undoubtedly hurt our military’s troop readiness, unit cohesion, and ultimately our national security. Additionally, the bill allocates the single largest funding total the Pentagon has ever received from Congress, and blocks the Biden Administration’s efforts to retire obsolete, costly, and ineffective weapons systems. These actions are an extreme step in the wrong direction for our country and a disservice to the men and women who serve to protect it.”
