Barragán Statement on Impeaching President Trump

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 13, 2021

“By riling up a violent mob to prevent the work of Congress and attempt to overthrow our democratic process, Trump violated his oath of office and violated the U.S. Constitution.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán made the following statement on her vote in support of the article of impeachment of President Trump for inciting insurrection.

“Donald Trump is dangerous and we can’t afford another day with him in office.

“Every day he is in office is a threat to our democracy and to the safety of the American people.

“To illustrate the point, today the Capitol building looks more like a war zone than the home of democracy, surrounded by razor-wire fences with armed soldiers in every corner.

“This should not happen in the United States of America and it is the direct result of President Trump inciting violence through his words and actions.

“By riling up a violent mob to prevent the work of Congress and attempt to overthrow our democratic process, Trump violated his oath of office and violated the U.S. Constitution.

“He committed crimes against our country.

“There must be a consequence. He must be removed immediately. That is why I voted to impeach.”
