Barragán Statement on Acquisition of St. Francis Medical Center by Prime Healthcare

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 14, 2020

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Today, Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán released the following statement on the takeover of St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood by Prime Healthcare:

Ever since St. Francis was put up for sale, my team and I have been involved to make sure our community receives the quality of care it deserves and that healthcare workers at St. Francis retain their jobs.

While it appeared an agreement was reached that was amicable to all parties, I am sad to hear there is a dispute over the retention of healthcare workers.

In an effort to help resolve the differences, last week I spoke with the leadership of Prime Healthcare. I was greatly disappointed about the direction of the call and their lack of interest in talking about the workers they have laid off.

I remain committed to doing all I can to help ensure that our community deserves the highest quality care and that all or nearly all of the healthcare workers at St. Francis keep their jobs. Sadly, to date, that has not been the case.
