SAN PEDRO, Calif. — Today, Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA44) made the following statement on the failure of Delta Airlines to send a representative to the South Gate City Council’s special meeting to address the emergency fuel release by a Delta jet over our communities. The meeting was held in the South Gate Municipal Auditorium this afternoon.
“I appreciate the leadership of the South Gate City Council for hosting today’s special meeting on the fuel dump by a Delta Airlines jet over our neighborhoods.
“Delta needs to take full responsibility and be accountable to our community. It was their pilot, their plane and their protocol that allowed fuel to be dumped on schools and homes.
“It is shameful that Delta representatives did not show up to look members of our community in the eyes and take responsibility.
“This type of environmental injustice doesn’t seem to happen in communities like Beverly Hills or West Hollywood. Our communities in South Gate, Watts and Cadahy deserve the same respect and accountability.”
