Rep. Barragán to Play in the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity for Third Year

WASHINGTON, D.C.–  Today, U.S. Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) will proudly wear her Los Angeles Dodgers jersey while playing in the annual Congressional Baseball Game for Charity at Nationals Park in Washington, DC. As a tradition of over 50 years, the game will bring together Democrat and Republican Members of Congress to play against each other while raising money for charity. This will be the Congresswoman’s third year playing in the men’s baseball game as one of two women on the field, the other being U.S. Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38).

“The baseball game has always been a great way to reach across the aisle while building relationships off the House floor,” said Rep. Barragán. “As one of two women on the team, I’m excited to play with the men for the third year in a row while sporting a Dodger jersey. Last year, Democrats took a win on the baseball field and in the House, and I can only hope the same will be true tonight. Go Democrats!”

The Congresswoman has invited the D.C. Girls Baseball Team as her special guests for the game.

“Growing up, I always dreamed of playing on a major league baseball field,” said Rep. Barragán. “I want these girls to be able to watch me and Congresswoman Sánchez and believe that, they too, can make their dreams come true. If we inspire these girls while they’re young, then they will grow up believing that they can do anything they set their minds to, including playing for a major league baseball team.”

The Congresswoman’s district includes the Compton Youth Baseball Academy where they host an Annual Girls Trailblazer Baseball Tournament and where the she has taken batting practice.
