Rep. Barragán to Play in the 11th Annual Congressional Softball Game

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tomorrow Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) is set to participate in the 11th annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game in honor of her constituent from South Gate, Maria Navarro, a seven year survivor of breast cancer. The annual game brings together female Members of Congress – Democrats and Republicans alike – as well as the women of the Washington, D.C. press corps, to raise awareness and funds for young adults affected by breast cancer. The game will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 7:00PM at the Watkins Recreation Center on Capitol Hill.

“Every year is another great opportunity for the women Members of Congress to reach across the aisle and do something they love, while raising money to beat breast cancer,” said Rep. Barragán. “Last year I played for my sister, Melody, who is a breast cancer survivor. This year I’m honored to play for my constituent, Maria. Stories like those of Melody and Maria are what motivates me to keep playing the game and hopefully take home the trophy. I’m excited to play tomorrow and can’t wait to beat the Bad News Babes!”

More about Maria Navarro

Maria is a community leader and member of Padres Unidos and the South Gate Multicultural Women’s Club.  She has been a strong voice for parents in the community for more than 20 years, volunteering her time at South Gate schools. She rallies the community behind important issues and helps engage them civically. Additionally, as a survivor, she continues to fight for a cure as a regular participant in the South Gate-Lynwood Relay for Life.
