Rep. Barragan Congratulates Compton Community College District on Assuming Authority of Compton College
San Pedro, CA — Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) issued a statement today following the release of an executive order from the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges declaring a change in local control from El Camino Community College District to Compton Community College District effective June 7, 2019. Compton College will once again operate as a fully independent and accredited institution under the governing authority of the Compton Community College District.
Earlier this week, Compton Community College District received confirmation that the Compton College Substantive Change Application: Change in Local Control was accepted and approved by the Committee on Substantive Change of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) confirming Compton College’s final step in the accreditation process. Compton College is expected to offer a full schedule of academic classes and support programs beginning with the summer 2019 term.
“Congratulations to the Compton Community College District on this significant milestone to gain local control over Compton College,” said Rep. Barragán. “I look forward to Compton College continuing to provide quality educational courses and vocational training programs as an independent and accredited college. This accomplishment could not have been made possible without the leadership of the Compton Community College Board of Trustees, students, and staff.
Compton Community College District Board of Trustees President, Nicole Jones thanked Rep. Barragán for her continued support of the College and the District:
“The Compton Community College District Board of Trustees celebrates this important milestone, and we would like to thank Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán and all of our elected officials for their continued support,” said Nicole Jones, president of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees. “We look forward to working with the El Camino Community College District to complete this transition and excited to offer courses at Compton College under the governing authority of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees after June 7, 2019.”
