Environmental Justice 101: Environmental Justice and Its Impacts on Communities of Color
(open press)
Communities of color and low-income neighborhoods consistently endure poorer air and water quality—and worse health consequences from pollution—than wealthier districts.
As chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ Environmental, Public Lands, and Water Task Force, Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-San Pedro) is hosting an hour-long roundtable discussion titled “Environmental Justice 101” to discuss this issue. The roundtable is open to press.
Rep. Barragán will lead a discussion with panelists to raise awareness around the concept of environmental justice and highlight the role that Congress can play in working to ensure equitable environmental justice.
Other members of Congress are invited to attend the discussion.
Roundtable host: Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-San Pedro)
Panelists:
- Mustafa Santiago Ali, Senior Vice President of Climate, Environmental Justice & Community Revitalization for the Hip Hop Caucus
- Dr. Laura Anderko PhD, RN, Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies
- Robert Esworthy, Congressional Research Service
- Mark Magaña, President and CEO, GreenLatinos
